Electric Department
While there are a few Boscobel Utilities customers whose monthly usage data is obtained with an automatic meter reading (AMR) device, most customers meters are physically read by Boscobel Utilities crew. Towards the end of the month, you may notice our utility crew out and about walking through resident’s yards collecting meter reading data. In some cases, we are not able to get close enough to your meter, or our data collection devices are not able to communicate with your meter, we may try to contact you. If we are unable to reach you, we may provide you with an estimated billing statement. That estimate is based on your normal usage history for that time of year. Any difference between the amount actually used and the estimated amount billed is corrected automatically when the next regular meter reading is obtained. Ultimately, you pay only for the amount of energy actually used.
Water Department
Similar to reading your electric meter, Boscobel Utilities crew members collect usage data from your water meter with an automatic meter reading (AMR) device, as well as manually reading most meters using a touchpad system. Meters are hooked up indoors to prevent freezing and breaking and are wired to a small box hooked to the outside of the building, where we retrieve the readings to determine monthly usage. At the same time, utility crew reads the electric meters, they are reading the water meters too. In some cases or during certain times of the year, we may not be able to get close enough to your meter, or our data collection devices are not able to communicate with your meter to deliver consumption data. In that event, we may try to contact you. If we are unable to reach you, we may provide you with an estimated billing statement, based on your normal usage history for that time of year. Any difference between the amount actually used and the estimated amount billed is corrected automatically when the next regular meter reading is obtained. Ultimately, you pay only for the amount of water actually used.
Wastewater Department
Billing for wastewater is based upon your water usage, and usage is obtained and billed according to the water reading.
